FLYERS COME UP BIG FOR CANADA
Submitted By Julia Paul on Wednesday, November 28, 2018
The Niagara Falls Minor Bantam AA Flyers spent last weekend in Detroit, Michigan helping Canada to victory in the Nation’s Cup Hockey Tournament...

The tournament format pits Canadian teams against their American rivals to see which country comes out on top with the most points.

The Flyers finished the weekend with a gritty 2-2-1 record facing some elite American competition.

In a nail biter, Jared D’Addio led the Flyers with a 1-0 shutout victory against the Steel City Ice Renegades to open the tournament.  In the second win the offense took charge in a 5-1 victory over the Saginaw Jr. Spirit.  The line of Riley Smyth, Noah LeBrasseur, and Dante D’Amario led the way, while the trio of Isaac Friend, Cole Pybus, and Evan Goforth chipped in with some timely offensive punch.  The Physical play of Quinten Russell, Eric Lapointe, and Jaden Colbourne set the tone all weekend.

After dropping a 4-3 decision to Compuware in the opening round, the Flyers got a chance at retribution on the final day.  On championship Sunday, the Niagara Falls Blueline Quintet of Stefan Candeloro,  Liam Deitch, Donovin Ingrebelli, Zack Whalen, and Declan Whittard shut down a high flying Compuware team as the Flyers skated to a 0-0 draw.  Jackson Fillmore turned away every puck for the shutout.

Niagara Falls, along with three other teams including the Oakville Rangers and Hamilton Huskies received Gold Medals for the Canadian Side.
