Programs offered by the NFMHA

new for the 2010 & 2011 Season

The NFMHA wishes to introduce a strictly 7 year old Representative team for the 2010 & 2011 season. While this program is still in the initial planning stages, attending try outs and representative fees are applicable. Further details will be announced shortly.

Initiation Program: This program is also referred to as Instructional. This is an introduction to the game of hockey for 4 to 6 year olds. Curriculum includes learning the game, developing skills, a power skating module, and playing games. All registrants in our tyke, house league, and rep programs, will include the Canadian Hockey Initiation Program in their hockey curriculum. One day per week.

Tyke: This program is the perfect transition for those players who have learned all they can from the Initiation Program, but are not quite ready for Novice House League. This program is designed for 6 year-olds and focuses on instruction through the game situation. Increase in game instruction, rules, and skill development. A power skating module has been implemented. One day per week.

House League: House League is offered from Novice through Midget. This program is the grass roots development for minor hockey in Niagara Falls. Emphasis is on improving skills, learning the rules of the game, and fair play. One practice and one game per week.

Select: The Select Program is offered from Novice through Midget and is determined on a year-to-year basis. Practices, games, and tournaments are at the discretion of the Executive. To be eligible for the Select program, a player must be registered and participating in our House League. While players wanting to play on a Select team do not have to try out at the representative level, if a player is asked to be elevated to a single A team and refuses, they will not be eligible to play in the Select program.

AAA and A Representative Hockey: Representative hockey is offered from Novice through Midget. Teams are comprised of local, zone, and waiver players who desire a high level of competition and are able to make a tremendous commitment. Competition and winning are integral parts of Representative Hockey. Player ice time during games is earned based on skill, performance, attitude, commitment, and practice attendance. Travel teams are on the ice a minimum of twice per week.
